Radio

I always loved doing radio. I spent about six months at WLIP in Kenosha back in the early nineties. I started as an intern for Stan Wallace. Before my first week was up I began reading news and sports. I’d put my whole segment together by choosing stories off the AP Wire. I had a lot of fun and it only made me want my own show even more.

At the time they were a local news station. They’d play some oldies and keep listeners up to date on local happenings. But one day they changed the format to talk! I was so excited, but all the full time announcers were very upset!? It was a dream come true for me. But at the meeting they all complained- what will we talk about?

Well, after the meeting I expressed my excitement to Stan, and deep down, he really wanted more than just spinning oldies. We put together a Stan and Ken Show. It was funny as heck. We worked out a bunch of funny bits and had our whole show planned with regular segments and all kinds of pre-production we’d do.

But as fate would have it, the very Monday it was supposed to start, the PD changed his mind because of a few whiners. So I didn’t get my chance. And it wasn’t more than a few weeks later I left Stan and tried to find my own gig.

My own gig never happened, mostly because I had to work full time to raise my family. But as fate would have it, some years later, because of my popularity at Ten Four Magazine, I got back into radio- Not as an announce but as a guest.

A funny thing happened to me after trucking for a number of years and writing for a trucking magazine- I became an expert in a field which I created. Namely, what causes traffic jams. Over a period of about six years I got calls every so often from radio shows where I’d talk about traffic jams and how to drive to prevent them. I had a lot of fun, but it never turned into anything steady.

So, I’m still looking… You can find some of my radio bits and guest spots on Youtube.

Here’s some of my Radio Bits from 2008…

Here’s a guest spot I did (I was the trucking expert)

Here’s one I really enjoyed…

Here’s another funny one…

So, if you do a radio show, or are a PD, please give me a try. I’m spontaneous and available on short notice.
